D30 wrenchfest

Pics from our wrenchfest at Ryan's. Kai cutting some old bearings off a carrier. It helps to have the right bearing puller, but a grinder, chisel and hammer can get the job done too. P1000370.jpg We ended up drilling 1/2" holes for plug welds along the sleeves. We were expecting a major effort ...

Re: Lower Low Range

There is no right line. Stuff like this is why I don't bother going to Rausch. I survived my first Rausch trip on 32" tires. Would I do it again with the same setup and the same group of guys on the same trails. Hell no! I scraped everything under my jeep, broke a few things, and loosened a lo...

Re: interesting new axle shafts

Have a look at TEN Factory for axle shafts, I'm running their chrome moly's in the rear and will be putting a set up front in short order. I almost bought a front set from Ten Factory, but I found the Alloy USA ones on amazon for $520 delivered, which isn't bad. Alloy USA comes with a 10 year warra...

interesting new axle shafts

I ordered a set of 27 spline D30 Alloy USA shafts a week or two ago for a good price to upgrade from stock. But, I just came across these for about the same price. Seems they're too new for any feedback yet. They're RCV shafts with a boot and new knuckle bolts to accommodate the CVs. They're not mad...

Re: ball joint upgrade.

So after the Rausch Creek trip last spring, all my ball joints and steering joints were lose. I was able to retighten everything, but after only a few more jeep runs last year, the ball joints are starting to loosen again. It's not too bad now, but I figured they might not last too long if I have to...

These BJ's run 200 a side! Not worth it for the tire size you have and the trails you run, IMO. $400.00! Yeowzers!
Oh crap, didn't notice it was $200 a side. I thought it was $200 for the set. Way too much!!!

ball joint upgrade.

The feedback I've seen is that the synergy HD ball joints aren't worth the money. But I just came across these other HD greaseless ball joints. I plan on changing out my original ball joints (with 100,000 miles) when I do some work on my front D30. I wonder if the Bone Fish ones are worth trying... ...

Re: Exhaust leak

I found the leak, it is a cracked exhaust manifold. What brand is recommended? Still a daily driver, so I'd like to get something that will last. Ha! What did I say?! Check your exhaust manifold... How do your manifold bolts look? If they don't look so bad and look like they'll come out easily, peo...

Be on the lookout...

A nice built-up Jeep was stolen from Quincy, MA last night. Be on the lookout. The ownee's name is Ryan and I've seen him post on the the Massachusetts part of JeepForum under Ryanwhiteaker. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f357/any-massachusettes-jeeps-out-there-1141411/index17.html#post12798916 2844...

Re: RMS again!

I triple checked the seal orientation before putting it in, so I think it's right. I did notice a couple of light surface scratches on the crank but it was real light, nothing your fingernail could grab and it looked normal to me. Also ran my hand along the back of the head below the valve cover and...

RMS again!

WTF, my rear main seal is leaking again after replacing it 2 summers ago. Is the 2-piece design (Felpro in this case) prone to leaking or am I just a bad home mechanic? I carefully followed the on-line instructions posted below, used plenty of anaerobic sealant, new oil pan gasket and torqued everyt...

PIG Form-A-Funnel

Used the Form-A-Funnel for the first time today, and it was great... I didn't get a drop of oil on my skid plates! I've made a mess before, especially with my oil pan skid plate, but no more! I bought small and medium sized Form-A-Funnels, but the smallest size, at $10 each, is perfect. They mold, b...

Re: Opinions

You could have a wrenchfest and run it a little while with the cover off while a few of people listen and look --- It'll make an oily mess though. I'm not up to much this weekend if you want help.
