Re: Need help diagnosing steering problem
Funny story: I installed the MC components (tie rod + drag link, the trackbar came with the lift) and aligned it best I could, but to no avail. I took it to Offroad Elements, who thought they fixed it by torqueing everything down (I hadn't gotten the pitman arm end of the drag link tight enough) and...

Re: Need help diagnosing steering problem
I wasn't in the bracket recall population (it's not on my list - there was a CAN bus one and a steering stabilizer one, but not the bad frame weld one)

Re: Need help diagnosing steering problem
I just put on a brand new Metalcloak tie rod + steering stabilizer, which as an added bonus is now mounted up and out of the way so hopefully won't get as beat up as the old one. It didn't make anything better. If anything I wonder if the old stabilizer - which was badly enough crunched up that I co...

Re: Need help diagnosing steering problem
Looking for shop recommendations. The issue: I now have a death wobble problem. At ~30mph any little bump sets it off (doesn't happen when going 45mph or faster as far as I can tell, but it's reliably reproducible going slow). Over the last several days I replaced the tie rod + steering stabilizer a...

Re: Need help diagnosing steering problem
Thanks all. I adjusted the drag link to recenter the wheel last night, and after a brief drive the error cleared. I'm going to look for bends in the track bar - I'll have to hose it down first to get it clean enough to see e.g. slightly crinkled paint. I doubt it's the control arms (not OEM, and Met...

Re: Need help diagnosing steering problem
Hmm. Looks like the sad answer would be that the steering box is fubar from pushing around the "too big" tires. The more hopeful answer would be that the two symptoms are connected and the fix is easy. I found this article, basically describing this problem and how to adjust the drag link ...

Need help diagnosing steering problem
Hey folks, need help diagnosing some problems that appeared after the run up OFR today: 1. Steering wheel must be rotated approximately 45 degrees to the left in order to drive straight. Nothing is (at least obviously) bent, broken or misaligned underneath - no disconnection or obvious slippage in a...

Re: FRS radio
Me too. I can buy and program one if there aren't any more "club" radios, but would appreciate the ease of a pre-setup unit. I'm planning at being at Gremlin this Sunday (9/16).

Re: On the waitlist from Lexington MA
Basically all the steel parts have scrape marks - frame, skids, nothing that shouldn't, I think - so I definitely broke it in!

On the waitlist from Lexington MA
Hi all, When I started looking for a club I was put off by the waitlist and ended up joining another club (Patriot Jeepers). However, I had a great time at Brookridge on Saturday, where I especially appreciated all the help that the Baystate members guiding and supporting the green run provided -- I...
