Re: electrical issue on a 97tj
So continuing with what everyone else said, which I agree with totally. if you now have a short, wich may be caused by 2 wires melting together, or one wire melting and now touching ground, or one wire melting and fusing to another wire from a totally different circuit. once there's a short then a w...

Re: Valve Head Recommendations?
So I picked up the rebuilt head yesterday. Started putting it back on today. When I opened my box of new head bolts there were 6 bolts and 4 studs. not really studs, but the stud like bolts. What came off was 5 bolts and 5 studs. the studs are about 3/4 inch longer than the bolts. So thinking maybe ...

Re: Valve Head Recommendations?
So I got back from my vacation and did the gas leak test John suggested. The #2 location drained in about a minute, the others in about 4-5. I also did a google search for machine shops, but not many will work on valve heads. That's why I was looking for a anyone who had experience with one in the a...

Re: Valve Head Recommendations?
Thanks for the suggestions. I did check the head for warpage, and it was ok. I will try the gasoline test, that should be interesting. Yes, the missing bolt/studs are for the manifolds. last 2 on the bottom row. the last one was just missing, the one next to it is snapped off. Any reason to put stud...

Valve Head Recommendations?
Short question, can anyone recommend a good machine shop in the nashua NH area to refurb the head on my 2.5l TJ. Just got done pulling it off and now I need it checked out and such. here's the back story. So my TJ has had a strange engine issue for a long time now. while accellerating under any kind...

Re: XJ current draw
yea, 16 mA isn't enough to kill a battery. It sounds like a bad battery.
I put a new battery in my pickup about a year ago, and 3 months later it was dead. no physical damage. so they just replaced it under warrany.

I use proscan http://www.myscantool.com/ it's not as compact as a handheld scanner, but can give you performance data, sensor reading, and all that stuff as well. ya just need to have a laptop.

I have some 31x10.5 tires on rims that make good spares if you need one.

anyone wanna help swappout my AX5 and tcase
So I finally made enough room in my garage to pull in the TJ. I also just finished installing some electricity in there. now i'm not running everything off a 20 amp line to the main panel. and lights. I now have lights. it's starting to look like a real garage. so this weekend i'm hoping to get my A...

Re: XJ Heater core
kinda late I know, but I have one kicking around that you're welcome to. if it were an easy changeout then I would probably not care if I used a Used core, but with that much work I would probably want new anyways. I also have a bunch of heater box parts, like vaccume actuators and such, if you need...

Re: XJ Heater core
I had a core go on a 2000 blazer. started out small (just a smell), then it went away for about a month, then got worse. soon it was fogging up the windows. That was $50 ish for the core and my mechanic said 14 hours by the book. he also said the book was optimistic. I got it done is a weekend. didn...

Re: Transmission help.
So I'm planning on getting a tansmission and tcase this weekend. then comes the fun task or doing a quick(hopefully) rebuild. Not sure if Wesley has done his ax5 rebuild yet, but maybe we can have a rebuild day and do both? I don't have a hydraulic press, but my shop is walking distance to you-do-it...

...what's a good price for a used AX5? Bad timing :( I just sold the one good AX-5 I had last night. Had the buyer lined up before your post went up.... that's ok, I'm sure I'll find something. are all AX-5's created equal? or do I need to look for one from a tj? and what did you get for yours?

A worn chain sounds very plausable.Kurt wrote:I just remembered... it could also be a worn (loose) tcase chain (since it's a TJ)
