You might not have to cut it, or just cut off that point. It could slash up a tire good. I think in 2014 they changed it so it doesn’t have that point any more. Here is a pic of mine after I cut it back. I did the same up front in case I went bigger.

Re: Planned Upgrades to my 2012 JKU Rubicon
I am concerned that the 35" tires will contact the tub in the front of the rear wheel well. I have a 3 foot high ramped rock in my yard and it looks really close with the stock Rubicon tires. I did not take a photo of the suspension compressed. 2.5" lift springs but stock suspension arms....

Re: Making the best of the virus...
I’ve worked a little more if anything, but that may slow down soon. I have an ‘86 Toyota pickup in my garage I started swapping a VW diesel into 10+ years ago, I really need to get it done so I can get my Jeep in there. I never have the time to commit to it.

Re: Gas tank skid
Best bet would be to call a salvage yard. If it’s that bad I wouldn’t wheel it until it’s addressed, the skid also acts as the tanks mount. If it’s in rough shape from wheeling you’ll never get an aftermarket skid to even go over it. I’d go with the aftermarket replacement skid before going with new...

Re: Planned Upgrades to my 2012 JKU Rubicon
I dont mind the rock rash on the wheels to be honest. To me it indicates a Jeep used off road. When I see a built Jeep at a parking lot somewhere I tend to look at the wheels to see if it’s a wheeler or not.

Re: Gas tank skid
I may be wrong but I would think if you sandwich to pieces of metal together they trap moisture and dirt/salt if daily in New England and rot out even faster. You are correct but that’s how most of the aftermarket skids are designed for the JK. I guess they assume you will never see the stock one a...

Re: Gas tank skid
If you want inexpensive I would just clean it up best as possible (in place) and cover it with a real skid. There are some replacement skids that eliminate the factory skid, think Clayton makes one, but I’m sure it’s not an economical choice.

Re: Planned Upgrades to my 2012 JKU Rubicon
She has the Fuel Anza with 4.5” backspace with 35” duratracs, that seems to be the recommended backspace. She ran with 3.21 gears for a year and was fine. We finally regeared to 4.56, I noticed the difference but she might not have if I didn’t tell her about it. I think you will be fine with the 3.7...

Re: Planned Upgrades to my 2012 JKU Rubicon
I like the Goodyear Duratracs, great off road and one of the few mud terrains rated for snow if you plan to drive in the winter. Don’t fall for the hype of aluminum skids. I don’t there is anything you can lighten on a Jeep that is going to add any difference. Light weight is for race cars. RockHard...

Re: Wow great day 3/14 in Winchedon, Ma
Wow! Had a great time! Wife didn't sleep Saturday night convinced that we should have died but she'll come around. She's already talking lift, skid plates, and tires. Was driving the (basically) blue stock Sahara JKU. Can't believe some of the stuff we made it through. Ironically, got about 20 mile...
