Re: Need to replace radiator
I just went through this with my engine swap. I was also told stock is best. One thing to watch for: if the price of an aluminum radiator looks too good to be true, it probably is. When they manufacture the cheaper ones they flood the inside with epoxy to ensure the radiators don't leak, but epoxy i...

Thoughts on which Harbor Freight tools are legit
Yep, taps and die sets are fine, though I agree with Kurt about the handle. Both styles of handle have loosened up on me, and I've resorted to crescents occasionally. The taps themselves are great. I would avoid anything with a battery, as their batteries suck. Hand tools are ok, though they will br...

Re: Favorite Muffler/Exhaust
So the Banks was pretty loud... and then I put a stroker in front of it. My neighbors are not going to like me.

Re: 6 speed rebuild
Reverse works! I don't have to slam it into gear and hold it there anymore. Good enough for me!

Re: Recommended unit bearing?
Cool, thanks! I've purchased Timken for other bearings in the past, but some of the Amazon reviews said the Timken's were knock offs. Anyone recommend a good vendor?

Recommended unit bearing?
So one of the (many) reasons the jeep failed is for a bad unit bearing. What brand do you guys recommend? I've gone with Napa in the past but I don't think this one has been in there all that long.

Re: 6 speed rebuild
I ended up buying a used tranny and swapping over the shift rail assembly, reverse synchro and collar. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161120/63c9ab5edcbf724adc8dbd7588fc53cd.jpg Plastic pads were worn off of the shift rail assembly and the synchro was pretty worn. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/...

Re: Local frame sand blasting vendor
I stripped it down as far as I could at home, the dragged the trailer down. Took off the leaf springs, axle, tires, hitch and lights and left him the frame. Took those parts home and rust treated them (and regreased the bearings) then returned and reassembled back in his yard. Way easier than findin...

Re: Local frame sand blasting vendor
Yeah, originally they thought they could just acid dip so it would be cheaper but there was enough paint on there they wanted to sand blast.

Optima batteries
I have a dual battery setup in my jeep, and I need to replace the main yellow top. I would go with a different brand but the mounts I have are specific to optimas and will be a giant PIA to change. Question: I was told once the optimas are manufactured in different locations, and the auto parts stor...

Re: Local frame sand blasting vendor
I ended up going with these guys: http://www.baystategalvanizing.com Trailer came out great! They ended up having to sandblast as well as acid dip, so the total cost was ~$500. Time will tell how durable the coating is but so far so good. I was also able to disassemble the trailer in their yard whic...

Re: $&@?!?"$ Engine
Franky! Thanks for the info. Curious, can you find out more about the issues with the Golen engines? If I'm thinking about spending that kind of coin I need to know exactly what I'm getting myself into. Golen offers a warranty but knowing my luck the engine would blow the day after the warranty ran ...
