Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
The leak has returned. It only starts when the vehicle is parked at an angle, but I’m no conceding that I need to replace the axle seal. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to it; might wait for a wrenchfest I catch wind of. It’s not really urgent because the angle that causes a leak is somewhat sever...

Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
Yes, used a LubeLocker gasket (on both housings!)

Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
Thanks, everyone--I appreciate all the feedback. Last weekend I changed the front differential gear oil (it wasn't empty) and filled to proper capacity; there has been no sign of additional leakage. My current theory is that by lifting by the pumpkin, I temporarily broke the seal during which time s...

Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
Didn't change the oil, though my plan was to do that this month anyway per Jeep's recommended maintenance at 4 years. The oil that is dripping is honey, so no clear there is contamination. The oil drip has stopped the last few days. I'm wondering whether I should just go ahead and drain and replace ...

Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
BTW, my Jeep is only 4 years old and has 13000 miles. Not sure if this causes you to update your thinking on leaking seals.
The dripping has again ceased--I've been watching it daily.

Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
Might take you up on that! Plenty of time for me to assess, too. Will also bring new diff cover; have in mind a replacement.

Re: Bent axle or axle shaft?
Thanks. Replacing the seal sounds like a good place to start. Is there a way to replace the seal that does not require getting into the differential? That is, can I get to it via the wheel assembly?
Again, very much appreciate your insights.

Bent axle or axle shaft?
Hey all, Last year when lifting my jeep I made the mistake of raising the front axle (a 30) by the differential housing. A few minutes after jacking, I noticed the leak on the passenger side wheel assembly. I lowered the jack and properly raised the axle and continued my work, finishing the lift. It...

sPOD JK install
All, I'm about to start some electrical work on my 2015 JK, first by installing a sPOD relay, then hooking up some switches on my a-pillar to power some accessories. Besides the obvious (don't shock yourself!), does anybody have any suggestions to make this a relatively simple operation and to avoid...

Removing under hood liner
All,
I'm interested in removing the under hood liner on my 2015 JK. However, I would like to make sure that I can replace it if necessary.
I notice there are several black tabs holding the liner to the hood; Does anybody know whether these tabs designed to be removed and reset?

Re: Trouble removing transfer case shift knob
So, it's been removed--but not without significant damage. For me, the strap wrench didn't work as it always eventually slipped. Instead, a pair of locking pliers was used to twist it back and forth before pulling it off. I've replaced it with a Drake knob that comes off very easily in case I need t...

Re: Trouble removing transfer case shift knob
I've definitely viewed the many YouTube videos on the subject, and nothing seems to work. I haven't tried a pipewrench or locking pliers because I'd rather not destroy the OEM knob.
I'm hoping there are some tips I'm missing.

Trouble removing transfer case shift knob
All, I'm planning on replacing some interior trim in the floor console, and I'm having trouble removing the transfer case shift knob. I have tried brute force as well as leveraging an open-socket wrench and hammer. I simply cannot get it to budge. I suspect I'm simply not strong enough, but if anyon...

Focus group in Needham invitation
There is a focus group in Needham, MA on the 24th and 25th where they will be soliciting opinions on a future car. They are looking for 22-40 year olds who are primary drivers of new-ish Jeep Wranglers, among other vehicles. They are paying about $120 cash for about an hour of your time. It seems le...

Re: Skid plates: Aluminum or Steel? MORE or Rock Hard?
Based on the overwhelming feedback, I'm leaning toward the Rock Hard steel. Thanks for the input, all!
