Re: School Shooting Today
Frank, a little late to catch up on this horrible situation. Glad she is coming home and sending your whole family positive energy! Hug everyone tight, as we are doing, and enjoy the holiday.

Re: New to us XJ - Cant pass it up!
Frank, I was wondering that too. I will eventually pull the tank over the summer and check things out, but its reasonably strong on starts now so I hate to spend on the new pump. I have seen the diagram and I have replaced two TJ pumps, so I have a decent feel for the look and issues. Time will tell...

Re: New to us XJ - Cant pass it up!
Figured I would carry on the updates, since I am still playing around with the truck. Parking brake fixed with some bar bending and reassembly... Seems to be working OK. Fixed a couple really brittle vapor lines, odd that some are falling apart and others seem fine. Swapped out the AX-15 fluid for s...

Re: New to us XJ - Cant pass it up!
Here is a pic of the new toy. Had a chance to get some basic fixes done like the battery and parking brake. Still watching the fuel pump and such for now, but she is on the road and Amyanne loves it!

Re: New to us XJ - Cant pass it up!
Thanks Frank! I was looking at that a bit, more complex with the unibody! Not as easy as bolting a hook to a piece of frame! I also seem to recall you having setup bearings for D44 and D30 on the TJ? If I get this XJ running smooth, I might get brave enough to try and regear Bigbird along with some ...

Re: New to us XJ - Cant pass it up!
:-o Something completely wrong with the statement "Michaela has a *vehicle of any kind*'. Unless she is still like 10 and you are helping her fix it up.... *Insert last memory of her being about 6 here* Guess its been a while. I/We are alive and thriving. Hope to see everyone on some trails mor...

New to us XJ - Cant pass it up!
Hey all. So in one of these right place, right time deals... Family friends are selling us their 1998 XJ (no badges, so not Limited, Classic, or Sport?), 4-door, 4.0L, 5-speed. The thing has 165K on it, but its in great shape. Step mom used it before she passed away, commuting and general driving, n...

Re: TJ Engine Misfire
OK, so got through the compression testing.... but seems a bit odd relative to the FSM. Got dead on 105 on all cylinder on 3-4 trys each. Except for #5, which was consistently 85. FSM says should have 120-150? And the #5 was not the problem cylinder.... Ripped apart the fuel rail, just for ha ha's, ...

Re: TJ Engine Misfire
Worst part is I don't know about "Udoit". I may be that old and non-forum-ed. Sorry all. Anyone near Springfield, MA can connect, and use our garage with air tools, etc. I got so much help for the BSJI folks back when I started, I am happy to return the favor. And at this point I have the ...

Re: TJ Engine Misfire
Joe, that is exactly the thought I had... check with another known running smooth pack. Anyone close by with a 2000-02 (I think they changed in 03) 4.0 TJ? HA HA! Maybe I will just leave notes on TJ's in parking lots and see who calls me... The working for a few seconds, not for a few seconds thing ...

TJ Engine Misfire
Wow, bad week for BigBird. 2000 TJ, 4.0. No engine mods other than a K&N filter. Think she has about 75K miles. Monday on way to work, she started running rough. Check engine light and then started stalling and really knocking by the time I left work, so towed her to AutoZone. Computer said cyl ...

Re: Rebuild Trac-lok
I am guessing the Jeep could squeel tires and flip itself 180 deg with a spool in the rear! Dont think I'm ready for the driveability issues of a spool in that little thing, especially since the wife drives it a bit in the summer. I think we would all get over the quirks of a lunchbox locker, but fo...

Re: Rebuild Trac-lok
Yeah, holy cow. I checked the price same time you did. No way its worth that IMHO. I will just suck up the basically open diff until I regear someday. Makes the trails that much more challenging....

Re: Rebuild Trac-lok
I had heard of the Powertrax for D44 w/ TL. Heard the early ones were blowing up the weaker carrier... I am not a pedal down kind of guy, so I had thought I might be able to make it live. And the Jeep only sees 4-5K/year these days.... may not be a bad upgrade... guess I can also look at if the carr...

Rebuild Trac-lok
Hey all. Just started daydreaming of spring projects today. While I cant spring the money for gears or locker update, I have to crack into the rear diff (TJ D44) to fix a leak and change oil. Is it even worth me considering replacing the clutch pack in my Trac-lok? I know its toast and has been for ...
