CAT Back Exhaust ???

Unread post by King Hap »

I need to replace mine. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good one? I do not love Loud, They all seem to promote "aggressive sound". Not really for me. I took out my rug and did the Rhino liner I do not want a headache on the highway. I’d like it kind of on the more quiet side. I have looked at a bunch. Reviews are 5 stars or 1 star on all of them. So i figured id ask my Jeep peeps. Any suggestions would help?

Thanks,
HAP

I have an AFE, it’s quiet and tucks up high to keep it out of the rocks

I also have an AFE on my JKU. Sounds good, A little loud (it's the Rock Crawler version) It removes the Resonator, and relocates the muffler where the resonator, But at idle it's barely louder than OEM. The tailpipe hops over the rear axle, but exits from under the driver side. I could have got the one that drops before the axle, but didn't want push the inspectors too much. In any case it's 50 state Legal, including California CARB.

I originally went with the pypes high clearance and it sounded like a clapped out civic. I took that same system, chopped it up and welded a cheap SS muffler from lous tucked up high. I think its sounds just right. No drone on the highway.
I also had a dynomax catback that sounded good, but rusted out within a year

My assumption was that an all stainless steel version would hold up much longer than the "aluminized" or galvanized coated ones?
This is on my spring upgrade list.

Though I guess under a New England Jeep, everything will eventually corrode :-(

Is it possible some water got into the floorpan and sat? I know that I have a drain issue, When it rains, my carpet is wet on the drivers side under my floor liner. I'm told that there is a drain on the JKs that comes in from the A pillar and is supposed to go out, but on some it comes into the cab.

The problem was caused from the soft doors and soft top letting water in. I didnt notice it was a prob because i had the all weather matsa and they covered the entire pan. It wouls just soak the rug and stay under the rubber mats. But nno more rug, and no more rust!!!

I ended up going with a MBRP S5502BLK Black Series Cat Back Exhaust System and a Vibrant 1141 2.5" Ultra Quiet Resonator. See how this works out.

Thank you everyone for the info and messages!!!

How hard was the rug pull out? I was thinking of pulling my rugs out and bed lining the inside (along with a noise reduction/thermal layer).

Not... at least on mine it was dead simple, all the rugs were even pre-cut to go around the seatposts. It was just a matter of finishing those little cuts, and sliding the rug out. (by finishing I mean just tearing by hand, they were slash cut like 90% of the way through)

Lining the floor does not do as much as you may think. I had two coast of Raptor ( almost 1/8" thick) and there was still plenty of noise and heat. Made clean up easy and protected the floors but nothing cuts the heat and noise like the carpet and insulation....unless you add a dyna-mat
Chrome? Never heard of it.
