1986 Comanche to 97+Cherokee front clip conversion /resto?

Unread post by SteveB »

WTB. The Comanche has suffered an egregious injury and is getting a face lift.....looking for Cherokee 97+ front fenders, hood, bumper with brackets, and header assembly (including grill and lights)

My donor rig was a 2001. It's nose pieces have given my Heep a facelift :)

Steve, provided your doing the facelift on an '87 up, you won't need a new hood unless your's is thrashed.

I do have a brand new passenger side '97-up fender and the hood from the '01 donor if you're interested.

You can get a complete aftermarket front nose with everything but the harness for fairly short $$ then hit a yard for the front directional and side marker sockets to graft to your harness. The headlight buckets and adjusters are a direct swap if you get an aftermarket unit without them.

If you're going to the GAJR, I can bring the fender with me if you want.

Darn, should have checked back in with y'all sooner, Found everything I needed from N Smithfield Salvage in RI, delivered. Fenders(-with flares & inner liners), bumper (with brackets, fog harness, vacuum canister, end caps), loaded header (includes harness, grill, light fixtures) and yup needed the hood. Set me back about $500. Called them this AM as soon as I got to work, had everything hours later...seems they make a run my way on Fridays.

Thanks all for checking your inventory, hope to see you soon, been too long since I've been on the trail.

SOLVED : Need passenger fender front leading edge, I am welding early fender leading edge to a 99 front fender as I am not a fan of the later flares and bumper end caps. Anyone have one laying around?

Might be easier to fab up some lower fender extensions or now's the time to upgrade to a wrap around front bumper.

I was thinking new bumper, but decided to keep the front clip looking "sorta" stock. I took the BFH to my crumpled 86 right fender leading edge and hammered it into a usable condition....welded it to the 99 fender and it doesn't look too bad. Left fender was unharmed so I'll graft that lower edge to the 99. While stuff was torn off I decided to stuff a winch behind the 99 bumper....tight fit. I'll post some pics soon, maybe create a winter project post.

Isn't it amazing what a BFH can cure!
'97 up clip with '96 down flares and end caps should keep some people scratching their heads

Kind of reminds me when someone mounted front seats from a 2-door XJ into their 4-door XJ

I am preserving it. :shhh: .....to the untrained eye she'll look "lightly modified" and I'm keeping the 4 angry squirrels
My paint and body guy is advising me to fully strip the paint too. He's talked me in to it, for now.
