New line of Warn winches VR models... thoughts?

Unread post by ChrisD »

On the surface it appears that Warn's new line of winches are not the same quality as the M8000 models. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are regarding the new models?

I would buy a Ramsey or Superwinch over a Warn.

Warn is just coming up with a model line to compete with the flood of imported Chinese made low $ winches... They had to sacrifice something to reduce the price...

Check the line speed rating and the motor rating. At no load the M8000 (12v / 4.8 HP motor) reels 42' / s, the VR8000 29' / s (and has no listed motor HP), and all the other loaded speeds show the M8000 pulls faster. Appears they went to a cheaper motor, and probably some of the other internal components got downgraded to lower cost components as well.

Doesn't mean it is junk, just not as tough and somewhat less capable than the older / higher $ models. Look around the web and see what people are saying about them --- I'm sure someone will review it and compare it to the other models.
