54" Trail Jack Help/Suggestions

Unread post by Blue Yeti »

So I bought a 54" Trail Jack. Not sure why I got the biggest one made, but I did.

So I am looking at mounting options and have seen them mounted a few different ways.
On the hood - Don't like
On the door hinge - Don't like
On the roof - Can't, soft top
On the Spare Tie Holder - Best out of what I have seen so far but ...

So I was wondering if anyone has made any custom holders for their Trail Jack?

I was measuring in the back and it might be able to be mounted on the roll bar tubes with a special bracket.
Has anyone ever welded anything to the roll bar tubes? Curious if this can be done or not.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Either you can buy special clamps to mount it to the roll bars or you can make your own out of a couple of exhaust pipe clamps.
If you find the 54" is too long simply cut it down to the desired length.

Thanks Kurt!
I was thinking of chopping off 10" to make it easier to move. Will look at the exhaust clamps and see what I can do with those. Thanks for the suggestion!

I mounted mine, 48", across the back on the roll bars. Used a mount called Hi- lift roll cage mount[ ha ha]. Kurts idea is just as good and definitely cheaper. Mounted mine on the inside of roll bar so top goes all the way down.

I have not seen it on JKs too much but another option depending on your bumper is to mount it on the front bumper. My TJ had a mount like that on the original bumper waaay back in the day.

I Like that pic with the jack on the front. My bumper is way different.
Might look into those hooks as they are reasonable priced.

That's kinda what I was looking to do. Some of those brackets are like $80. If I mount it on the roll bar it def can't impact taking the top down... can't damage the top either. If I see you at the 101, I will check out your setup.

BOLT makes a mount that puts the highlight on the rear of the front fender just in front of the driver or passenger door. I’ve debated getting it, it’s a easily accessible location, I’m short so anything I can do to keep things out of my vision on the hood is necessary, if I mount it on the passenger side I can keep track of where it is in relation to trees I may be running into.

I "Wouldnt" cut 10" off ! Cut it to 48" and include the hook on top or not but it takes quite a bit to get a flat tire off the ground when your jacking Body ! Mine like Ken is mounted across the back just inside the tail gate. I have home made bumpers with a tire swingaway and CJ tail gates go down like a real Jeep ! HaHa. Some have made a vertical mount inside the swing away that moves with the tire. I like that also. FjR68

Thanks BlackNBlue-ISH. Not sure I like a huge jack mounted right there. If you do get it, give us some feed back after a few times driving with it.

Frank - I will look at your setup too and see how it looks.
I wont cut it just yet... will look around at the 101 and see what others have and see if I can find something I like.

Thanks! :obscene-drinkingcheers:

I took the rear seat belts off the other night and free up some room so it was on to the trail jack!
I decided to take Kurt's advice and for 8 bucks I got me a cool jack mount!
Right where I want it and it's easy on/off.
The guy at the parts store was like... say what? Then he saw what I was doing and liked it.
