"Badland winches - Harbor Freight? Are they junk?"

The consensus is that the winches are made by 12 yr old Chinese kids that can do trigonometry

I read the first page of the Pirate thread and agree it would make a great winch for the trailer, but would not trust it to get my rig, or someone elses, out of a hairy situation.

at that price for chits and giggles I might consider it for a rear winch but like Doug said it would be purely decorative.... LOL

When I said for the trailer I meant mount it on the trailer and use it when the Heep breaks and you need help loading it.

I didn't have any baggage when I bought my $300 Smittybilt, I bought it because it seemed like a good deal. I ignored the people who said it was a POS, turns out most of them had no first hand experience, they were just regurgitating what they heard second hand, or dismissed it and laughed at it, because it was a $300 winch. But nobody here would do that  I winched the piss out of my Smittybilt more than a few times over a few years, and you know what? The haters were wrong. I sold it used, for not much less than I bought it for, and bought another 'no name' winch

I saw a write up in a previous Peterson's 4WD Mag (one of many 4WD rags we get) on Harbour Freight and they did mention this Badlands winch and gave it a good rating from what I can remember - I can look it up tonight and confirm. Rob was looking into that winch too to replace his Milemarker which he has had nothing but issues with. Also too - depends too on how much stock you put into Peterson's articles.

the thing I'd be concerned about is line speed. My milemarker is horribly slow. Next winch I get is gonna have to be faster.
