NEW Bushwacker Aluminum Fenders JK

NEW Bushwacker Aluminum Fenders JK

Unread postby Richl35 » Tue Jun 13, 2017

I was lucky enough to get a set of these for cheap. I bought them new in sealed box as the person who sold them to me decided to go with a set of MC Overline fenders. Let me tell you what I discovered once I received them. If these are not produced off of the same drawings that PS aluminum fenders are I will eat my shorts (as Bart Simpson would say). They are IDENTICAL from what I can tell. The overall design is the same, the installation is identical, (download the instructions from both manufacturers. The same instructions!) the fit was spot on and the powdercoat finish is a nice textured semi satin black powdercoat, the welds look like aluminum welds should (and I run a manufacturing shop) and they came with quality installation hardware. It has all the same bracing to tie the fenders into the body support structure that PS comes with and they fit perfectly with my PS inner liners as well. The eyeball test says all the flanges appear to be of the same thickness aluminum and holding a PS and the BW flare in my hand they feel very similar in weight.
Are they the same? I don't know for sure... but I know who owns PS now and it wouldn't shock me to find out that they sold out the product line or are made by the same manufacturing group. If you are looking for a lightweight aluminum fender that's decent quality and has the added benefit of leaving a few $$$ in your pocket for some other mods I suggest you take a look. I've seen them for $749 a set compared to $1100 - $1200 a set for PS flares bare aluminum.

Those are nice flares, there is no doubt the metal ones look better than the plastic ones. Just something to think about (to those deciding on flares), depending how you use your jeep, is how they will hold up to the trees on the trails we run. The metal ones hold up to more abuse but they will cause more damage once they cannot hold up. I haven't lost a fender yet but I've come close enough enough times that it will happen eventually if you run with the "challenging" groups. On the last run I had to be winched sideways off a tree and I was lucky it hit my sheelmetal but almost got the flare. I'm guessing he went with the overlines because he can take them off when off road. I am considering those for that same reason. Congrats on the deal, those are going to look nice when you get them installed.

I lost a plastic BW fender once ..... haha.... no damage to the sheetmetal. At least not caused by losing the fender. would be a different story if they were metal.

I like those for the same reason. Good looking fender, no doubt. I think Mark put them on Pumpkin.

He ended up going with the Overlines because he is working on a LCG build. The Overlines gave him a little more fender clearance than the others did. His build is a 2dr JK with 2.5" lift and 39.5 Pitbull Rockers (I think that's what he was running) on a set of full width Dana 60s. I ended up paying $300 for the fenders so it was worth the risk to see if I liked them or not.

I have seen some ugly front fender damage from a set of plastic Bushwacker fenders once too. It pulled the fender out in the front and bent it at the back of the wheel well in line with the antenna. That adhesive molding they provide has a pretty good grip! I think the stocks are the best for just popping off.
