Optima replacement

Unread post by Baseshakers »

Does anyone know of a good battery with dual terminals and the rounded sides the size of an optima? The latest yellow top in my rig has died after not even one year... this is getting ridiculous. I was able to get a refund because the warranty is 36 months but this is just stupid.

The issue I have is that the dual battery setup in my pig is made for the rounded corners of an Optima, and the wiring needs both the top and side terminals. 34/78 size battery. Any suggestions for a replacement?

Im purdy sure only Optima are shaped like that. My Red top went 8 yrs. Just changed to a yellow. I have a habit of leaving a batt tender on it cause it sits for weeks some times. How bout a disconnect to isolate them completely ? FjR68

The Odyssey batteries are the bomb. They have side terminals but a rectangular design. Round hole, square peg :eusa-think: Can you fab a fix for these batteries?

Would the Exide Orbitals work?
Dual posts, rounded bottom like an Optima but the top of battery is square-ish.

Good idea Kurt! Anyone know where to buy one? Having trouble finding the orbital anywhere.

Dude , I love you man ! Go to www2.exide.com , left side of page find "where to buy" , enter zip#. There is a Bazillion dealer through lower N.E. including Tractor Supply . FjR68

I know, but most of those places don't carry the Orbitals, just the regular square ones. :snooty: Sorry, I'm special.

How long have you had the dual battery setup? Is it too soon to get a new setup that is more universal for battery replacement?

Don't know if they're still around, but you may be able to call and only buy the dual battery tray.

Questions about the last Optima that failed.
- Was the battery discharged and left uncharged for a while?
- Has this happened more than once for this battery?

I bought the "optima" digital batt charger and its fantastic. It takes 4 hrs. off the charge time of my deep cycle boat batts. You pick the type of batt , it goes through a test cycle and then charges each cell by what it needs. If this charger dont bring it back , its dead ! Its worth the money as it also has a maintain after the charge . FjR68

My Sears Platinum AGM battery (basically the Odyssey) just died on Thanksgiving day in NJ after 3 yrs and 2 months. Picked up an equivalent at Batteries Plus with a 5 yr warranty. I’d be surprised if it lasts that long but can’t beat that warranty! It’s an X2Power AGM 34/78.

Is it the same batt going dead , (same location) Possible draw on that one alone . Do you have an isolater switch ? It might be bad . FjR68
