Re: Steering shaft play.

I just noticed the sloppiness, although I think I've been hearing it chatter for years  I installed a reman Durange steering box right before the spring Rausch trip, and the splined shaft was a real tight fit onto the box and I definitely tightened the nut at the splines. I'll take a closer loo...

Steering shaft play.

Is this amount of steering shaft play acceptable? It chatters every other time when letting the clutch out. Drives okay.

Re: AC leak questions

So I'm trying to get the AC running again in my TJ... :eusa-think: ........................ why? Have you ever looked under Ryan's hood? If it's an option, he's doing it! Plus, defrost can be necessary when running a hard top and full doors, which I believe he does in the winter... and, I still use...

I've used a Stant one for years without problem.

I'm undecided still, but would like to go and I can still arrange time off from work. But, I would definitely head down on Wednesday and not Tuesday.

Yup. I bought an open box, never used Hobart Handler 190 on Amazon for $518. Jeff can be the welding instructor at future wrenchfests ;)

Re: Lift kit for JK

I would look at Zone Offroad for an inexpensive lift kit. Their manufacturer also supplies parts for BDS kits so they're quality parts. Don't know much about JK lift kits so I can't comment as to how complete the kits are.

Welcome aboard. I'm in Newton, not too far from you. Jeep 101 would be a good first event to check out, even if you don't wheel.

Damn. That's on top of the previous problems you had... let me know if you need a wrenchfest day.

Re: Safe-T-Cap

Cahl, I have a Safe-T-Cap section welded over a rotted wheel well section. I actually drove to AutoRust in RI, got a quote and checked their operation out and decided to have Lou install it. If you're not going to replace the frame, then that's the way to go and I've had zero issues with it. I haven...

How bad is it? Will another patch work, or does an entire section need to be replaced?

Re: some welding help needed 1/10/15 (also a few wrenchfests

When we did mine, we left the old ball joints in place during welding and then swapped in a pair of new ones after things cooled down. I found Moog ball joints for a good price on Amazon, but in retrospect, I would have installed some of the newer all metal ball joints. Their longevity is still kind...

Re: Painting Process

My front and rear bumpers have stayed rust free for over 5 years, except for where I have banged and scraped them of course. They came powder coated and I scuffed and top coated them with a clear coat. The rear bumper got a thick top coat of POR-15 clear coat (forgot the exact name), while the front...

Re: Here it goes - TIRES, which ones?

I've had 34 x 11.5 Super Swamper SSR tires for the last couple of years. I remember they took a lot of weight to balance, but Elia's balanced them right and they're fine at highway speed. They hum a little and wander on the highway when there are ruts in the road, but it's not bad. I've driven to Ra...

x2 on using MrBlaine's swaybar link kit. It's beefy, comes with a gusset and is a good fit.
