Re: Recruiting the Next Generation of Jeepers

Hi Matt!
We had a great time! Every time we walked by, the kids were checking out the Jeep. Thanks for the display.

Re: Leaf spring fix

I would heat it, bend it, weld it to the 2nd leaf and worry about it next year. I'll pack some rod and jumper cables if it breaks at Fall Crawl.

Re: OK, So anyone know what is with the Dealers?

I believe legally, they have to prove that the modification caused the malfunction. Lift pucks and diff covers are not going to affect a transmission. Be stern and hold your ground. The service dept. knows your add ons did not cause the issue. Research both transmission issues for your year and revi...

Re: Repeat valve burn

Did you replace the rocker arms? The valves spin in their seats during operation and a screwed up arm can stop the rotation. Typically, people remove the valve train and reinstall in the same location, hence the problem hasn't moved with the new head. I think I have a few rocker arms kicking around ...

Re: Fender upgrade. Plastic or metal?

When my Jeep still had fenders, I ran the stock ones until they were beat and focused on other more important upgrades.

If I had a JK with plastic fenders, I'd run them until they were no longer serviceable and then get free replacements from someone spending money to upgrade fenders.

Re: Sway bar disconnected/ antirocks

"Not as Safe" is a relative term in this hobby. A stock YJ comes from the factory with a front sway AND a front track bar with leaf springs. I suppose my YJ as it sits isn't as safe as stock. Personally, there is enough internal friction and spring rate in my leaves that it feels safe to m...

Re: Spare Belts for Trail Runs: What do I need?

If you dont upgrade to grease able U-Joints at this time , you would be foolish. I respectfully disagree Frank. I prefer solid u-joints and settled on good old Spicers with full circle clips for my YJ. I believe they are better sealed. Besides, no one ever services u-joints the way they should and ...

Re: Sound off

I can see some benefit for a slightly better flow but you also want to ensure that with the upgrade you dont change the backpressure too much as that can change engine performance. Ideally, in the optimal power band of a 4- stroke engine, you want zero backpressure. Aftermarket exhausts typically o...

Re: Sound off

A muffler alone really isn't going to liven it up, unless you mean the sound. Given the cost and vulnerability, I would only replace it when it needs to be replaced, especially if you decide to hit any trails. I used to go through a muffler a season and bought the cheapest one possible.

Re: Spare Belts for Trail Runs: What do I need?

A ball joint tool is pretty heavy. Even when I owned a shop, I found the hammer and socket method better for u-joints.
