Regear and Lockers
Just want to get some opinions as I am a bit new to this. My rear ring gear and spider gears are damaged. I figured this is a good time to regear from 3.73's to 4.56 for my 33" tires. I also plan to swap out my limited slip diff to a selectable locker. I need a new carrier anyways. The OX locke...

My TJ has similar symptoms but i think it is piston slap. It starts 5-10 seconds after starting and goes away when the engine is up to temperature. When I disconnect the electrical plug to the injector of cylinder #2 it quiets down.

Re: TJ control arms
Think I finally found the source. I just took the rear diff cover off today and broken teeth on the ring gear and spider gears.
I guess its time to regear!

Re: TJ control arms
Thanks for all the advice everyone. I ended up just getting a pair of stock ones for now to get it back together.
Carl I know the crown store well. I live in Canton and go there often for parts.

TJ control arms
I have intermittent clunking sound coming from under the jeep when starting from stop. I have checked most typical culprits (loose bolts, transmission mount, transfer case shifter, steering components, shocks, sway bar links etc..) and have come up empty. I thought it might be the front lower contro...

Re: Lifts, inspections, how they measure.
Thank you Don for sharing that. I am aware of the MA law which is why I thought it was strange the way he measured it. It made no sense to me.
Well in any case, I don't have to worry about it for another year! Just though i would share my experience.

Lifts, inspections, how they measure.
Has anyone heard of this? Brought my jeep in for its first annual inspection since the bigger lift and tires. The inspector takes out a tape measure and measures from the ground to the bottom of my front fender flare and said technically it was over the limit. It measure 31" and he said it shou...

Re: Pinion seal?
Got it done tonight. Wasn't too bad. Had to use the mark everything and put it back the same way method. Without a lift there was no room to get a torque wrench in there to tighten to the spec. Next up shocks. They arrived today. Bolts have been soaking in PB Blaster for the past 3 days. Fingers are...

Re: Advice on shocks
I have already checked them out. The problem is maximizing the suspension travel with the 2" bb. Ideally the springs would be 2" longer so I wouldn't have to adjust the stops for spring compression. I also have bar pin eliminators which change the relative position of the shocks. The bilst...

Advice on shocks
Hi I would like some advice on shocks. While looking at my front and rear suspension to adjust bump stops for my new 33's, I realized that the shocks that the PO put on the jeep are too long. They only extend out 1.75" when the jeep is level. After doing some research they are for a lift up to ...

Re: Pinion seal?
Heated garage! I am jealous! Well at least the weather is getting warmer and I have a non-heated one. Thanks for the offer and all the good info. Hopefully I will have some time to take a crack at it tomorrow. I have read up on it and borrowed the tools I don't have. I will let you guys know how I m...

Re: 33's on TJ
So I was checking the travel and bump stop and measured the axle travel distance. 4" is stock. My measures 6" so my stops are not extended. I also pulled the boots off the shocks and was horrified to see that I only have about 2" of extension when the Jeep is at rest. So it looks like...
