Re: Skid plates
On a JK you're going to want to be sure and do something to protect the Evap cannister. It sits underneath the jeep and hangs down pretty far, and it's expensive to replace. There are 2 ways to deal with it, either relocate it or put a skid under it. Relocation kits are available, but I just happen ...

Granddaughter's stock 2007 JKU got 33" when we went to the Toyos. She has no clearance issues.

Re: Re-gear
In my opinion - while a locker puts more stress on axle internals, open diffs are easier to break. This is because most axles break when the wheel starts spinning, the axle hops a little, then the spinning wheel suddenly gets traction. It stops - with all of that power still going to it, and that's ...

I've been running Toyo Open Country ATs for 7 years, I'm on my second set. I trust them so much I put a set on my grand-daughter's Jeep - and I'm a very protective grandfather... Nothing that's not Grampi approved goes on her Jeep.

Re: Shops that install lifts
FWIW, there are 3 places my Jeep gets worked on. First is in my driveway, with me turning wrenches. If, for whatever reason I'm not going to do it, then it will either go to Lou at Elias (a 1.5 hour drive for me, but worth it) for lifts, driveline, and other offroading related work, or to a local sh...

Re: Shops that install lifts
OR - you could host a wrenchfest in your driveway. We could get it done in a couple of hours, for the price of a few pizzas and some beverages. A couple of hours? Ask Kurt or Don how long it takes! They have recent experience with that. Ralph he's talking about a 2.5" lift, he doesn't sa...

Before I forget - just sayin, don't really care one way or the other, if you're registered in MA, then wheel spacers are illegal. Yes, everybody runs them, but you should at least be aware. It's MA General Law Chapter 90, Section 6.04: General Requirements: "No motor vehicle shall be altered or...

Re: Howdy
JKs are noticeably wider than the older Jeeps, and plenty stable out of the box. I've never felt the need to widen the stance for stability, and 2" on each side seems like a lot. I bought new rims with more backspacing to gain clearance for wider tires, but not because I was concerned about sta...

Re: New to the Forum (maybe looking to join)?
Some people around here might say that you are nuts to buy such a capable Jeep and not use it. I bought my 2009 new off the lot and within 6 months had it lifted and on 32s, added skid plates and rocker protection specifically for trip to Moab in October of that year. Nope, not nuts at all for using...

Re: Just Joined
Im not a fan of using RTV with a gasket . Id use it without one. I only use ultra black as its the most impervious to oils and lubes. The other trick is to coat the surface and hand tighten the bolts just till it starts to squeeze out. So there is a gap left. You wait an hour or two then finish wit...

Here's the contact page for the Children's Museum. http://www.southshorecm.org/#!location/c2ua
Not sure if they're going to do the Touch a Truck this year, nothing's posted yet.
