In case it is helpful, here are the rust-proofing procedures I used, plus some good advice from others on the topic. So your next frame lasts longer than the first one!

Re: Merry Christmas
Good news! My wife got really mad and said she didn't want the stupid repainted bottle jack for Christmas. So she gave it back to me! Secretly, that was my plan all along. I immediately took it out to the garage to test it with the new Safe Jack accessory kit that I had my wife buy ME for Christmas....

Re: Merry Christmas
Remember that rusty bottle jack I found in the cargo hold of my JKU? Well, I spent three hours sanding it clean and painting it. Then I gave it to my wife for her Christmas present! Well, as it turns out, that was a BAD idea. But at least it was too heavy for her to pick up and throw at me. ;) https...

Re: Weigh in
I now have a wireless scale system so I can more carefully calibrate different configurations for my Jeep and trailer. Here are the results so far. The Jeep has exactly half a tank of gas, and the only cargo items are the tools and recovery equipment that live in the vehicle full time (plus two trac...

Re: Fall Crawl 2019
I have been reading through the Safe Jacks catalog and found these recovery kits. I think they would make a great donation from BSJ to the 2020 Fall Crawl raffle. Re: Recommendation for side steps/running boards?
Yes - good point! With the right set of sliders, you can definitely use them for pivot maneuvers. It's a good skill to develop, especially if you have a JKU or other longer-wheelbase Jeep. There are plenty of tight turns at Brookridge and other properties.

Re: Recommendation for side steps/running boards?
Whatever you do, make sure it fits your intended use. I had to learn that lesson the hard way, and a lot of Baystate members were very helpful (as always!) in helping me decide on the right solution the second time around:

Here's a post with some photos of how I installed a very cheap and quick mounting system for a fridge slide in the back of my JK:

Re: How do I keep my trailer connector from getting smashed?
I figured it out. The bracket is installed per Mopar instructions, with just two hex screws. And the connector itself has a 7-pin pigtail that is easy to disconnect. (the other valve is my bumper water tank spigot) https://udqw8a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4mNthoffkd1Hq3JOLfUbP5pc31dVSN2XT9GR_DJuRF5AG0SeZ2W...
